Accounting Course Objective

To prepare the student for employment in entry-level Sacramento accounting technician careers as well as careers across the country in bookkeeping and accounting operations. The accounting course students at MTI will gain knowledge of the computerized applications that have become necessary for a successful California accounting career in today's business world, applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite.

Description of the accounting technician education at MTI

Accounting and Bookkeeping staff calculate, classify, and record numerical data and maintain accurate financial records. Accounting technicians and personnel might handle money, perform auditing duties, analyze various financial statements, compile and prepare quarterly reports, and maintain accounts payable and receivable. Students will learn these and other processes for an accounting career during their accounting courses at MTI.

Training Requirements

There are skills that you will also acquire during accounting classes in order to have a successful accounting career in the future. Accounting Technicians must be knowledgeable in areas including accounts receivable and payable, payroll procedures and tax laws, fixed assets, present value calculation for liabilities, cash-basis bookkeeping, and year-end work. Accounting staff should have a good business math aptitude; computer operations skills with an emphasis on word processing, spreadsheets, and computerized accounting; keyboarding and 10-key skills; legible writing; and an ability to work independently.

Students who successfully complete this accounting course are eligible for advancement to other Accounting Technician Degrees, including Year Two of the A.A.S. Business Administration Degree with the addition of other MTI subject content.
